Posted on 1/25/2020 by Dr. Frank K. Sioda
How to Make Sure Your Veneers Do Not Come LooseRising in popularity as a cosmetic treatment option, dental veneers give the patient a chance to conceal simple dental flaws and achieve a brighter and sharper smile.

Veneers can transform your smile without the need for multiple invasive treatments. As much as dental veneers are highly resilient, that does not make the indestructible. However, with proper care and maintenance, dental veneers can last you for up to a decade. Nevertheless, oral problems, injuries and other factors could lead to the replacement of your veneers.

How Do Veneers Loosen?

The porcelain used in the making of veneers mimics the resilience and strength of the enamel. However, just like regular teeth, veneers can also succumb to damage. Over years, the dental cement used to hold the veneer in place can become weak causing the veneers to loosen. Unfortunately, you will not be able to treat this problem on your own because a loose veneer needs replacement. If you have a loose veneer, it would be time you came to see us in our office.

Preventing Veneers from Coming Loose

Once we have replaced your loose veneers, it would be important to maintain good oral hygiene. Healthy teeth and good oral hygiene go hand in hand. Brushing your teeth and gums at least twice a day plus flossing can constitute to good oral hygiene.

If you decide to use the wrong oral care tools, there is also a likelihood that you will damage your veneers. A non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush is the best way to go. If you grind your teeth avidly, there is a chance that you will induce wear and tear on your veneers. This will end up destroying their lifespan.

Besides these simple steps, we advise you to visit us for a routine checkup and cleaning of your veneers after every six months to make sure your veneers keep looking and feeling good. If it is already time, do not hesitate to book an appointment with us.
