Why Ibuprofen Is Better For Alleviating Pain Following Dental ProceduresSo you've just had a dental procedure with us and you're on the road to recovery, but wish you could get something for the pain so your life could be a little easier.

Alternatively, it could be that you're having painful tooth problems and you want to buy some over-the-counter drugs, or OTC drugs, to relieve the pain before you head to our offices. Which are the best drugs to get?

We recommend you get Ibuprofen. However, before we explain why, it's important you understand how each type of OTC counter deals with pain and whether or not it is safe for you to use. For example, you shouldn't take certain types of medication when you have certain medical conditions. It can prove dangerous. To be absolutely sure you're making the right choice, we advise that you talk to us first before purchasing any OTC pain reliever.

Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is the best drug for dental pain because it actually fights inflammation over and above alleviating pain. Inflammation is quite common when it comes to dental pain, so you'll want an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. You shouldn't use Ibuprofen with certain medications, however, such as aspirin, blood thinners, ACE inhibitors, methotrexate, and lithium.

Acetaminophen

While acetaminophen is a popular pain reliever, the main disadvantage is that it does not fight inflammation. Since you're likely to experience inflammation along with your dental pain, it won't be much help.

Aspirin

Some people wrongly believe that putting aspirin on the aching tooth should be enough to alleviate the pain. This is not true at all. Aspirin can damage your teeth and gums and should be avoided at all costs when it comes to treating dental pain.

Like we said at the beginning, to be completely sure, you should check with us to get a proper recommendation on which painkillers are best after a dental procedure. Based on your current condition and the medications you are taking, we will give a proper recommendation that wills safely alleviate your pain.
