What Happens if You Lose All Your Teeth?

Posted on 3/6/2023 by Dr. Frank K. Sioda
What Happens if You Lose All Your Teeth?Having healthy teeth boosts your confidence. When you have all your teeth intact, you can easily smile, chew, and swallow food. However, if you lose all your teeth, all these activities can prove problematic. Some of the effects of losing all your teeth include:

Bad Aesthetic Look

The first notable thing is your look. You will have a different appearance which can interfere with your confidence and self-esteem. When you lose all your teeth, your face will have a hollow and sunken appearance. The aesthetic effect will make you look older and have a weird facial appearance. You should seek restorative dentistry to replace the lost teeth and rebuild your facial symmetry.

Difficulty Chewing and Speaking

When you lose all your teeth, chewing food can be interfered with. Missing teeth will make you unable to eat certain foods, leading to poor nutrition. Lack of teeth will cause problems when pronouncing some phonemes. The problem occurs as teeth are integral when pronouncing some words.

Loss of Bone

When you lose all your teeth, the jawbone is also affected. The bone will degenerate if prosthetic teeth are not placed as soon as possible. The bone can lose its height and become flat. It can also cause gum recession which makes you susceptible to periodontal disease.

Affects your General Health

If periodontitis occurs due to teeth loss it can increase the risks of other conditions. Gum disease is linked to other health conditions, such as hypertension and heart disease. Moreover, when you have missing teeth, you will not be able to chew food correctly, which interferes with your nutrition causing malnutrition.

When all your teeth are lost, it will affect your look and predispose you to other dental conditions. Consult your dentist and request teeth replacement, which will help boost your confidence and self-esteem.
